1975, I was 22, pregnant, unmarried, no job. I went to a "woman's" Free clinic and after my positive pregnancy results, told me, abortions were free tuesday night, and that I should do this because it was the right thing to do. I received no education, and although I was a feminist, felt as if information and decision making was being witheld from me because of what "someone else" had decided. I did not receive fair and balanced information. I was ashamed of all those representing the freed woman, there that day. Fortunately,I was strong enough to research and make my own decision and I now have a grandson from the daughter I bore. Other women and men deserve this right... to be educated and to talk to professionals that have different views, and perspectives. The former approach was oppressive and against true feminist ideals and my civil rights. I feel restricting healthcare provider perspective in medical conditions is the same.
