During nursing school, while working at another hospital, I was asked to assist in the ER with a 16 yr old girl, in for a botched, late term abortion. She had nearly died of blood loss. Her father carried her in and he and her mom were just devastated because they did not know she had arranged the abortion. She was terrified, in shock and hysterical because she did not know the baby was full term. The fetus was chopped to pieces and too large to abort. I had to carry the fully developed tongue of a full term infant to the lab as the doctor removed him, piece by piece. No one in that room will ever forget that scene.

In 1992, I took a position as Pediatric RN in Longview Tx. Dr. Jocelyn Elders was brought in to speak to the nursing staff. My supervisor & Ms. Elders made it very clear that if we were going to work in this unit, and if we were competent nurses, we would be required to inform all female patients of their right to birth control and abortion without knowledge or permission of their parents, regardless of age. We were to use all our powers of persuasion, not just educate. I submitted a formal written complaint to the Hospital Administrator for requiring nurses to attend this intimidating seminar.

As a parent, I was outraged. As a nurse, I was sickened. As a Christian, I was determined. Everything I believe in as a core value states we are created in the image of God and life is sacred, despite the age, condition or circumstance. Common sense advised if they got away with this, the elderly were next.

My supervisor promptly assigned me to pediatric ICU with no backup or training on the equipment. She didn't even know how to turn on some of it. It was my reward for embarrassing her by challenging the next US Surgeon General. I resigned, she was transferred to another state and we all know what happened to Ms. Elders.

When I was a teen, county hospitals were cranking out abortions as a form of birth control and any teen could get one at taxpayer's expense. We were told it was only a blob of tissue, no matter how far along we were. Those on welfare were encouraged, coerced and intimidated.

As an 18 yr old unwed mother, a physician was determined to abort my daughter but I requested an amniocentesis first, to determine age. He complained the entire time about the waste of taxpayers dollars and after determining I was 6-7 months along, I got up and snuck out while he was scrubbing up for the abortion.

Much damage has been done to the psyche of girls/women, their abilities to reproduce, their needs for early/future hysterectomies due to massive scar tissue...not to mention the unbelievable loss of life to the fetuses.

We now know, of course, that the blood circulates at 3 weeks and the heart starts to beat at only 4 weeks. At 8 weeks, this "blob of tissue" is differentiating between male and female and all internal/external structural beginnings are already present!

I strongly believe America will have to answer to God for all the blood of innocents spilt on our watch.
