In the early 1980’s, as a nurse with 6 months of ICU and nursing home experience, I decided to apply to Manchester Memorial Hospital in CT for a position in their OB unit. Toward the end of the interview for the position, I indicated that I would be unable to participate in abortions, contraception or tubal ligations. The Director of Nurses, who was interviewing me spoke for about 2 minutes, ending with the statement that abortions were done at that facility and, given my positions, perhaps I had better apply to St. Francis Hospital (Hartford, CT) OB Dept. instead.
